working on a new dance track

December 1st, 2009

Just started work on a new dance track, initially titled schwarz. I’m going for a bass-driven, thick, electro-influenced melodic sound. Starting something new is definitely fun and inspiring, and challenging. Continued tweaks to software and hardware, locating gear that been hidden away for a while, locating samples, and …. So, anyway, here are a few of the first bars I’ve put together. 16 bars, although it’s really just an 8 bar foundation at this point.

producing music again

November 17th, 2009

After some time away from the music scene I’ve decided to begin producing music again. There were a bunch of reasons I walked away from music, but none of those reasons outweighs my desire to make music again. So, I’m back where I should be, creating.

So, Logic Studio 9 is fully loaded up, my hard drive is nasty with Native Instruments plugins, my trusty MacBook Pro 17″ is paired up with my Apogee Duet, and my Sennheiser HD595 headphones are plugged in. Now I’ve just gotta go rescue one of my keyboards from storage and my mobile audio production studio is up and ready to rock.

I’ve found a few remix projects to jump into to knock off the sound rust, and since it’s been a few years I’ll be working to learn the new features of Logic Studio 9. I’ll also be looking for people to collaborate with on remixes and new material. Think melodic, bassline driven, sometimes techy, electronic music. In addition to remixes and new electronic music, I’m going to leverage a new project I’m interested in.

A few good friends (Paresh Rana, Pearl Schroy, and Chris Martin) have asked me to contribute music to a movie they are making called 22 ways 2 love you, which is not so surprisingly about love. I can’t think of a better project to contribute to as I get back into my love of music. Check out 22ways2loveyou.com, follow @22ways2loveyou on Twitter, and check out their Facebook page.

I’ll be posting new music to my SoundCloud account as I create it, and you’ll find some old stuff up their too. SoundCloud is really a fantastic site for producers and musicians.

Let’s create.

Robots eating trees to save the Earth

October 14th, 2009

What could be much cooler than a robot that eats trees to save the environment? How about a submarine that can recover timber from underwater forests? We’ve created massive dams across the face of this Earth, and when we create dams we usually cover vast forests of trees with man-made bodies of water. Enter the tree-eating robot. Triton logging has found a way to create a profitable business logging timber long considered lost.

Sawfish: mining the forgotten forests of the sea: “Once it finds the tree, the Sawfish grabs onto the bark with its grapples, which are like giant arms. It inserts a rolled up airbag that bolts onto the tree. Compressed air inflates the airbag. The saw on the Sawfish then cuts the trunk just below the airbag and stays there as the usable part of the tree shoots up to the surface. Then it moves on to the next one. The new Sawfish is capable of cutting and floating up 50 trees per dive.”

the gift of fatherhood

September 28th, 2009

A little over a year ago a day came with a gift named Isobel. I entered fatherhood and a new world of love and learning opened up for me. With Isobella’s birth came the realization that even though I’ve made mistakes and work to be a better man every day, everything I have done so far in this life is also somehow perfect.

litany against fear

September 27th, 2009

I must not fear.
Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing.
Only I will remain.

Great quote, made famous by a great movie. I’m assuming you know where this came from.

a new beginning

September 27th, 2009

How often do we wish for a new beginning? Like we’ve been playing a game and can just start over, ready to win this time. Well, if you have a WordPress blog hosted on a Media Temple account, I can recommend deleting your WordPress database in a misguided fit of cleaning things up. Oh, and make sure you don’t have a backup of any sort.  Then, at least, you’ll get to start your blog over again … just like me.

Reboot blog, go.
